Why is waterproofing required on the roof if we maintain the proper slope to outlet?

You are currently viewing Why is waterproofing required on the roof if we maintain the proper slope to outlet?
Even with a proper slope to outlet, waterproofing is still required on the roof for several reasons:-
1. Water can still penetrate through the roof surface, especially during heavy rainfall or storm conditions.
2. Roof slopes can be compromised by debris, sediment, or ice dams, which can block water flow and cause ponding.
3. Wind-driven rain can force water up and under roofing materials, even with a proper slope.
4. Roofing materials can deteriorate over time, becoming more porous and susceptible to water infiltration.
5. Temperature fluctuations can cause roofing materials to expand and contract, creating gaps and cracks for water to enter.
6. Structural movements or settling can also create gaps and cracks in the roof.
7. Waterproofing provides an additional layer of protection against water ingress, ensuring the roof remains watertight even in extreme weather conditions.
While a proper slope is essential for water runoff, waterproofing provides a critical extra layer of protection to safeguard the roof and building from water damage.
